Why do some people recieve social security disability for fibromyalgia and others don't?

I have fibromyalgia and can only work a couple of hours a day. I am in alot of pain and medication. I was just turned down for social security disability. Why are some people approved for the same condition and others are not. Thank you

I just answered a question somewhat similar to this one. I’m gonna just copy and paste it right here:

"Although Fibro and CFS are common disabilities that many people apply for, not many get approved. The reasoning for this is because there is no actual "listing" for Fibromyalgia in the Social Security Administrations "LISTING OF IMPAIRMENTS" manual. Due to the complexity of gaining eligibility with Fibromyalgia, it is more beneficial to actually see a specialist as opposed to just a family doctor. This will carry more weight with the SSA."

If you are denied benefits from SSA your next step is usually to contact a disability attorney. check out the site below for info regarding your question AND for info regarding disability laywers. hope this helps.

you are not finally turned down until you go to court–after fighting for a few years—most people –even with visable disabilities have to go to court…

you can work more than me right now..i struggle to work 2 hours/month

why do some people with depression get ssdi and others don’t

why do some people with epilepsy get it–and otehrs don’t

ssdi is not awarded based on diagnosis..it is on teh basis of severity of the disability
